The Challenge

This South Turramurra family loved their established neighbourhood and did not want to leave the home where they had raised their children.

However, as the family grew and the teenagers needed more privacy, the existing house was no longer practical for everyday living.

Their goal was to create a comfortable multi-generational home while continuing to live in the property during construction.

Addbuild's Response

The project involved a complete redesign of the ground floor to create a larger master bedroom with ensuite and sitting area for the parents, together with a first-floor extension including new bedrooms, a bathroom, and a shared study area for the children.

From the beginning, one of the biggest challenges was balancing the family’s wish list with council regulations, structural requirements, and the available budget. During the design process, Addbuild worked closely with the family to refine the layout, adjust setbacks, and simplify certain construction details to keep the project practical and financially achievable.

Because the family remained living in the home throughout construction, careful planning and communication became essential. The construction sequence was organised so the new upstairs bathroom became operational before the demolition of the existing bathrooms downstairs. We also coordinated the works around the father’s work-from-home schedule to minimise disruption during the renovation process.

The result was a beautiful and functional home designed for modern family living. The parents now enjoy a spacious private retreat downstairs, while the children have their own dedicated space upstairs.

Most importantly, the family was able to remain together in the neighbourhood they loved, in a home that now suits both their lifestyle and future needs.

What they said

“They made the whole process easy. Between design and building supervisors and putting things through the council, they collectively did that for us and helped us with the steps… each stage they communicated really well.”
